So, in my last post I talked about wanting a more "winged" shawl. I found the Damson patter on Ravelry and I thought it would be a good starting point. I had to modify the pattern quite a lot. For one, I don't particularly like garter stitch on variegated yarns, so I had to transform the damson from garter stitch into stocking stitch, which was easy. Then, when I got to the scalloped edge I realized I didn't have enough yarn to finish it the way the pattern says, so I had to do smaller waves.
Final result looks cool, and, more importantly, stays on my shoulders when I put it on, so it'll make a great reading/computer shawl that does not require a brooch. Still need to block it, but I'm still lacking a blocking board for that.
Still, it is not as winged as I wanted it. So I guess there will be a lot of experimenting with multiple spines and doing yarn overs on both right and wrong sides and other bits and pieces to create a very winged shawl.
Next project... I should finish the dropped stitch scarf I am doing, but I may leave that for my carry-around project, to knit on the way to and from work and during lunch breaks. So, the options for another project are...

- I have three balls of yarn to make long gloves that I am not entirely sure how I'm going to make. The pattern I like is quite lacy, and it is given to knit in the flat and then sew up. I'm not sure I fancy transforming that into something to be knitted in the round, and I'm pretty sure I don't want to figure how to knit them fingers-to-cuff instead of the other way around (cos I really like knitting gloves from the top rather than from the cuff, makes my life so much easier...)
- I have remnants of all the colours from Molly's Bewitched sock club: a little bit of SnakeSkin, Periculum, Pigmy Puffs and Nosebleed Nougat, and a bit more of Snape (and a lot of Fiendfyre, but that is going in the dropped stitch scarf). I wonder if I could do something with them.
- I could start my Heere Be Dragone shawl. But I'm not sure I am awake enough for that right now.
- I could wait for the first shipment of the Firefly Sock Club, which should be here next week, and see what to make with it. There are a couple of shawls I have my eye on...
